While search engine optimization is often confusing for rookies, you must understand the concept if you have a website, especially if it is your source of income.

I’m here today to give you a summary of what Search Engine Optimization is all about and how you can optimize your SEO!

Let’s get started!

How Does Search Engine Optimization Work?

Search Engine Optimization

Google since its inception within the late 1990s has been doing the foremost amazing job of collecting, organizing, and visually presenting the info to the staggering figure of 3.5 billion searches every day! It also occupies 92.18% of the market share in the search engine industry.

It’s just mind-boggling, isn’t it?

And this is not the end of it. They also had the opportunity to do what they want to do, and since then it has been a completely different world altogether!

But how does all of this come together? What happens in the background when one searches for something?

These are the BIG questions and if you are a fan, you must certainly find out, read and browse more and more about it, as I try to do which will only add to the value of your business and grow you as an avid-entrepreneur.

I know you surely would have had an encounter with search engines like Google, Bing, and others. These search engines are very important in ranking blogs, articles, and other web pages.

But have you ever asked yourself as to how they work? Mmmm maybe a yes or maybe not. Well, let me tell you that I never asked myself these questions until now. I was always happy to get all my answers from google and probably it would get my job done. But now as I have entered the Digital Space, I did a follow-up on google and it’s just amazing!

Maybe you too are wondering how this should even be a concern. Now here is the deal as to why it should be. You need to know how they work or at least have a hint so that you can reach a point wherein you can optimize your site to rank high. This will also help you to write content that is friendly to the search engine.

So basically, the process of getting a blog, website, or article to rank high on search engines is nothing but what we call Search Engine Optimization or SEO. In simpler words, Search engine optimization is the key to putting your website in front of the people who need to see it most.

So now let’s dive in deeper to learn more about how this ranking works and also the tips to implement to rank high on these search engines.

How Search Engines Index Sites?

Search engines have unique ways of ranking sites. Very little is known on the specific protocols that they use. This is because the information is very sensitive to commercial purposes.  Though there is some little information available on how they rank.

When you search for something for example on Google. Some machines called Crawlers or spiders roam around the web looking for the information that is related to what you have searched. It includes all relevant sites. This activity is called crawling.

After that, the spiders have grouped the information it arranges it in an order of their relevance. This is what we call Indexing. This is why some sites rank higher than other sites. The site with more relevant data is ranked on the top pages.

Let’s now have a look as to how you can achieve this.

1) Keyword Optimization

As I have explained in my video below, Keyword Optimization is the activity of using phrases related to the site or article and these phrases are what we call as keywords. Here you generally use some specific phrases that internet users are likely to search. You simply have to distribute them across an article.

So basically if you do this, then it makes the spiders easy to know what your site is all about. When the spiders are crawling through your site they can know whether to index your site or not. You must therefore give them a reason to rank as much as possible. And not only to rank but also to rank them high.

However, you should avoid keyword stuffing. This is an activity of using the same keyword too many times. Please avoid stuffing keywords unnecessary as it might do no good and might hamper your rankings.

2) Backlinks

Well, this technique is a growth hack!

Backlinks are also vital components that are used in the ranking of sites. A backlink is a link from another site that directs the reader to your site.  Though you should note it’s not all backlinks from any source that matters.  The link should be from top-rated sites.

For instance, a backlink from Wikipedia has more value compared to that from a site that has just been created and that’s pretty obvious.

In most cases, we have no control of sites that link to our sites. You generally need to create useful content. When other readers who have blogs visit your site and find the site having important information they will tend to link their site to yours.

Therefore, your part is to strive in generating content that is helpful to readers. In the process, sites will link their sites to yours.

3) Naming Images

Well, please note that these spiders are not human beings. As a result, their understanding is not the same as ours.  You must therefore learn to teach them how to understand your site.

For example, they cannot be able to recognize what is in an image. This is why you need to title your images. This is by briefly giving some descriptions of what is in the image. When the crawlers visit they will know if this is what an Internet user is looking for.

4) Read time

Read time is also essential. This is the average time site visitors stay on a site.

According to research done, it showed that internet users tend to leave a site that is not helpful to them very fast and stick longer on helpful sites.

Therefore, when you have longer read time rates it simply indicates that the readers find your site to be helpful. You, therefore, should write captivating content that makes visitors stick longer. This will indirectly improve your Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

Besides these, some other enormous factors that will influence your SEO rankings are:

  • The right amount of effort you put in
  • Proper timing with respect to how consistent you are in publishing your blog posts
  • Creating an amazing marketing strategy to keep your users engaged
  • Curation of top-notch content as CONTENT is KING!
